Large packets

If you capture lots of large packets, iTest can run out of memory. The amount of memory used by capture depends on the types of packets captured. You can use a capture filter to limit the types of packets captured.

If you need to perform large captures, you can use either or both of the following features:

Increasing memory available to iTest

Increase the amount of memory available to iTest.

To specify the amount of memory allocated to iTest, follow these steps:

In the iTest.exe installation directory, edit the iTest.ini file and modify the following lines:

-vmargs

-Xmx256M (this is the default ---256 MB memory)

Fanfare recommends that you increase the value to 512 or 1024. To change to 1024MB, for example, change the last line to -Xmx1024M.

Monitoring iTest's memory usage

1  Click Window > Preferences.

2  On the Preferences dialog box, click General.

3  Click the Show heap status check box.
Heap utilization information now appears in the bottom right of the iTest status bar.

Reduce the maximum number of packets captured

In Windows, you can set the iTest Wireshark preference to reduce the maximum number of packets captured.

  1. Click Window > Preferences.
  2. On the Preferences dialog box, click iTest and then navigate to Session Types > Wireshark.
